MSR (3 SIZES) MIRROR SILVERING REMOVER - DO MIRROR ARTWORK
NOTE: THIS WILL REMOVE SILVER (AFTER STRIPPING BACKING PAINT) OFF OF COMMERCIAL "SILVERED MIRROR" AND WILL NOT REMOVE CHROME COMMONLY FOUND ON CHEEP HOME CENTER MIRRORS OR MIRRORS FOUND AT HOBBY LOBBY, MICHAELS, IKEA, WALMART AND SO ON. COMMERCIAL MIRROR CAN BE FOUND AT ALL LOCAL GLASS SHOPS.
THIS COMES IN 3 DIFFERENT SIZES 16OZ (PRE-MIXED), 1 OZ POWDER (MAKES 1 US QUART) AND 4 OZ POWDER (MAKES 1 US GALLON).
This is a product we make used by professionals and DIY'rs alike to remove the silver off of the backs of mirrors to do artwork as shown in the pictures.
How it works:
* First you have to remove the backing paint from the back of the mirror to expose the silver. At times of colder weather this will need to be done inside (use a paint stripper which contains the active ingredient METHOLINE CHLORIDE. Apply the stripper medium to heavy in 1 direction and LEAVE IT ALONE (glass temp should be about 70 degrees) and it should take less then 15 minutes. DO NOT HEAT IN OVEN and KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES!!!
* Once the paint has lifted and wearing rubber gloves wipe off the paint using a paper towel. Clean with soap and water and a soft cotton cloth. Then allow to dry.
* At this time you should see mirror only! If not re-apply and follow steps until you do.
* If you are doing artwork apply your stencil and the part that you are taking off is the area that is open in the stencil. I would use a cotton ball for larger areas or a cue tip for finer details (apply the MSR to cotton ball or cue tip). Depending on the mirror this may take a little effort to get off all the silver but as long as it is a warm and a commercial SILVER MIRROR (not a home center, walmart, Hobby Lobby and so on mirror - those are chrome and will NOT be effected) you will have great results.
